Caffe Bernini
A moment to unwind in the city.
At Shimura-sanchome's Caffe Bernini, enjoy house-roasted beans brewed cup by cup, from the signature Bernini Blend to shaken caffe shakerato, alongside coffee yokan and cheesecake.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Looking up toward the slope from the exit of Shimura-sanchome Station brings Caffe Bernini into view. This kissaten roast its beans in-house and hand-brews every order cup by cup. A handful of tables seating 2 line the compact dining space, where a calm, unhurried air lets you focus fully on what is in your cup.
The natural place to begin is the Bernini Blend, bearing the shop's name. Gentle acidity balances soft bitterness, gentle body, and a subtle sweetness, yielding a crisp, clean finish that lingers pleasantly. Conceived as a cup one never tires of in daily life, it makes an effortless first choice on an initial visit.
If you crave a chilled drink, the Italian-style caffe shakerato, frothed vigorously in a cocktail shaker, immediately catches the eye. The thorough agitation creates a fine, velvety layer of foam on top, delivering an aromatic rush as you sip. Sweetness can be adjusted to preference, making it a well-loved choice for an iced coffee that doubles as a dessert.
Alongside cakes, the sweets menu features an unusual pairing: coffee yokan, a firm red bean jelly. Prepared with Caffe Bernini's own brew, the confection blends lightly sweetened bean paste with the roasty fragrance and mild bitterness of coffee, harmonizing nicely with both dark roasts and mellow blends. The classic cheesecake is another comforting companion, its moist richness melting into the warm notes of the coffee.
Roasted beans are sold by the bag and drinks are available to take away, giving guests the chance to consult on flavour profiles and home brewing methods. Scanning the shelves lined with single origins and seasonal blends offers an easy way to discover a roast that suits the day's mood.
